Beware of pickpockets on flights

A pickpocket stole thousands of pounds worth of cash from business class passengers as they slept on an Air France flight from Tokyo to Paris. Air France cabin crew did not spot the thief at work as he rifled through wallets and handbags during the 12-hour overnight flight.

Passengers woke to find large sums of cash missing. The captain alerted police who met the Boeing 777 jet as it landed at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport on Tuesday morning, but they were unable to identify the thief.

One passenger told police that about £3,000 in mixed currencies had vanished from her handbag. Read more…

Ryanair slammed over booking charges

John Fingleton, chief executive of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has accused airline Ryanair of “taunting consumers” with “puerile” charges when booking ‘free’ flights. The head of business watchdog criticised the Irish budget carrier for fees that could be added when customers pay online.

In an interview with The Independent, Mr Fingleton singled out the practice of levying fees by adding charges to payments made with all but one specific type of bank card yet still claiming to offer ‘free flights’. Read more…
