Lying to Get Lower Insurance a Risky Venture

Car insurance companies have been spiralled with the surmounting insurance payouts and while the premiums touched 31% increase in the previous year, the condition of insurance market does not seem to change much either. A recent report from a comparative buying insurance site claims that about 38% of the UK motorists have resorted to lying as the means to get better premiums. Men are the likely culprits for doing the same with more than half of the population admitting to have fibbed for getting lower insurance cover.

It is seen that the British drivers have been remarkably well off with different lies for different occasions all in an attempt to driver a lower insurance premium to their kitty. The most common of the lies circled out included were lying about the annual mileage, which 14% of the drivers agreed to. Furthermore, close to 8% of the UK motorists lied about where they parked their cars, as car parking is one among the various clauses considered for a lower premium. While another 7% of them admitted to understating the value of their cars, most of them also admitted that they have added people to their insurance policies, even those of them who would never drive their car.

The sole motive for committing such a felony is to save money on their insurance. 71% of them believed that prevaricating a few points would not hamper much and will be able to get them lower premiums. Although, none of the surveyed drivers admitted to have proclivity to lying, but it is bound that people lying to gain benefits eventually would face the consequences. Lying may seem like a possible means to outdo the insurer but it also is a risky venture. People who have misrepresented their information run the risk of invalidating their insurance policy. Given that car insurance companies have become savvy about such felonies, it is likely that once a default is found, the person would risk their insurance cover altogether. Costs and implications incurred in an accident are far harsher than a genuine insurance cover.
